Thank you for your interest in adopting a homeless animal from the Missoula Humane Society! Your choice to bring a shelter pet into your life is a great one. You are showing great smarts and compassion. By adopting a pet you are saving a life and showing this four-legged wonder that people really are good.

Take a moment to browse the photos of animals available for adoption. Please feel free to contact us for more information about an individual animal. If you are seriously interested in adopting, we suggest that you visit the animal at the shelter to be sure that he/she is compatible with all members of your family.

A great way to start is by filling out our adoption Matchmaking Form. We ask you all sorts of questions about what type of companion you would like so that we can gauge who might fit best into your lifestyle. Having all members of the family fill this form out together even before visiting the animals is a great way to come to an agreement about what type of pet you want. Bring your Matchmaking form to the shelter, and our staff would be happy to assist you in finding the pet that best suits your lifestyle.

Remember, acquiring a pet is a lifetime commitment so be sure and take the time necessary to make an informed decision about who will join your family!

We have a few policies regarding adoption:

  • All animals must leave the shelter spayed or neutered.
  • We require that landlord approval if you rent.
  • All dogs are temperament tested before adoption. We reserve the right to cancel an adoption should the dog not pass our behavioral evaluation.
  • Please allow ample time to complete the adoption process. It may take anywhere from one hour to several days to complete an adoption. Just remember, your new companion will be with you for life, so spending a little time is worth it!
