Donation Options - Emily Kantor Special Medical Fund

January 2003 – Our latest recipient of funds from the Emily Kantor Fund is “Annie,” a 2 year old Chihuahua. Annie was surrendered by her former owner, whose boyfriend was unhappy with Annie’s inability to hold her urine in the house. (She had a urinary tract infection). We immediately noticed that Annie had a terrible rattling cough. We took her to a local vet and had her examined. After a series of tests and x-rays, it was determined that Annie probably had pneumonia and/or a variety of other bacterial infections. These infections had never been treated and have become chronic. It was also discovered that poor Annie had a severe urinary tract infection! Our staff decided that Annie should go stay in a foster home until she was well enough to be spayed and then adopted. During the six weeks, Annie has required numerous x-rays, blood tests, medications, and other diagnostic tests. This treatment (or series of treatments) would not have been possible without the Emily Fund. Now it seems that Annie is recovering and there is a wonderful family waiting to adopt her!

About the Emily Fund

Emily Kantor was only 13 years old when she died in 1995. Because of her love for animals, Emily’s family established a memorial fund in her name at the Missoula Humane Society. The fund is specifically for animals arriving at the shelter in need of immediate medical attention.

Because of the Emily fund, we are able to provide life-saving medical care for animals we might otherwise not have been able to keep and place for adoption. The fund allows us to provide surgery, x-rays, diagnostic tests, dentals, and other necessary medical treatments. Just because an animal comes in with a broken leg, does not mean he doesn’t have a chance at finding a new, loving home.

If you would like to help make second chances possible for deserving animals, make a contribution to the special Emily Kantor Memorial Medical Fund.
